Foster to
Adoption
— A Wonderful Way To Build A Family
“We wanted a third child
and fostering led us to adoption"
Perhaps you
have children now, but want to
bring more into your
family. Or perhaps as a single
person or couple, you’ve
been considering adoption but are
discouraged by high costs and lengthy
waits.
Fostering can
often lead to adoption. There’s
no guarantee, and the goal of
fostering is to care
for the child until the birth parents
are able to do so again. Some foster
placements are as short as a few
days or weeks; many last as long
as months or more than a year;
and a good number do lead to adoption.
You can choose
what kind of placements are best
for your family. You can
choose to be open to all, or work
with only certain ages or situations;
it’s up to you.
Foster
Parents Who Adopted Tell Us…
“
We couldn’t afford regular
adoption, and I’d heard war
stories about what some foster
kids were like. But then Angela
came into our life as a foster
child and we fell in love; we’re
on track to adopt her. Yes, she
has some special needs, but foster
parents are provided reimbursement for a variety of expenses related
to the care of the children and
we get lots of support from Albany
County case workers. When you need
help, they'll respond within hours.”
