Empty Nest?

Kids again“My kids are grown, but now I’m helping other kids get a fresh start.”

You’ve raised a family and now they are off on their own. You thought you’d heave a huge sigh of relief when they left, but now that they’re gone, there’s a silence in the house and you realize you’re not done parenting, yet.

Have you considered becoming a foster parent? Your years of on-the-job parenting experience will be especially welcome. There are hundreds of kids in Albany County who need a place to live: for as little as a few days or weeks, or as long as a year or more. You can choose the time frame which is best for you.

As a foster parent, we’ll give you the extra training you need, and foster parents are provided reimbursement for a variety of expenses related to the care of the children. If you have extra love in your heart, and a little extra room in your house, you can keep parenting for as long as you like, and help a youngster get a second chance in life.

"Fostering has filled my house with love again."

House filled with love.

“When my kids grew up and moved away, the house seemed empty. I missed the activity, the daily ups and downs, and the special moments when you see a young child blossom.

Yes, it’s a challenge. My foster kids came as infant babies: abused, affected by drugs, and making no eye contact. But they left laughing, stable, secure and happy that they can lead a normal life. If I can do it, anyone can. I’ve found that if you give of yourself, the things in life that take the greatest sacrifice give the greatest reward."
