Why Become A Foster Parent?

A Child Needs Your Help!
Young Child Riding Off Into An Unknown Future!
Think of it from a child’s point of view — facing difficulties at home; not sure about what will happen to them; scared and worried. They really need a safe haven, a temporary home with someone who will love and care for them until things get better. Will someone be there to help them?

Hundreds of children in Albany County need temporary foster care each year. If it weren’t for people like you, where would these kids go? Sure, they might end up somewhere, but it might be in an institution or a home far from their neighborhood or even in another county. They need a safe, loving place to stay until their own family is once again able to care for them. Click here or on this little photo above to enlarge it and see the full details and stories.

A Foster Parent Tells Why They Do This

Why, you ask?

To help someone that otherwise may end up in a shelter, on the streets or dead.

To offer love to a kid who may never have known what it was.

To show a kid that there are good people in the world and that life can be different from what they have been living.

To offer hot meals, clean clothes and a soft bed for a child who may have never had any of them.

To do God's work and take care of the little children even if they are not ours.

For the hugs, kisses and smiles that we can bring to a hurting child.

To give them someone to talk to and tell their deepest fears and hurts to in the middle of the night and help them work through them.

To nurture and teach young minds that life can be good and to watch them grow into responsible, caring people.

To care for them for years only to have them reunited with their families and feel the hurt and pain of losing them and know that it is OK because they are happy and safe now because of you.

To make a difference in a kid's life if only for a short time.

To get off our butts and do something instead of sitting back and watching things on the news and saying why doesn't someone do something to help those poor kids.

Is that enough??
